The workbench
The workbench is where each Stoa unit is checked before a release: one story per unit, drawn from sample inputs you can edit as JSON, with the events the unit sends and the state it leaves shown beside it. It runs entirely in your browser from static files, so the copy published here is the same one a developer runs locally.
Open the Stoa workbench. This copy is Stoa 0.27.2, exported at commit 659dca27d624.
What it shows
The workbench has 11 stories, in groups:
- Theme Engine (Theme): Edit the config to change the offered modes, themes, Solar options and axes; the engine restarts with it. The mode switch in the top bar is the same engine.
- Header (Frame): Narrow the stage to Phone or Tablet to see the burger and compact search; collapseAt is the header’s own width. Brand, navigation and slots are site-owned. identity is off: the workbench has no Access to name a signed-in person.
- Page Foot and site footer (Frame): Notes are trusted HTML; source titles and update text are escaped. The source register belongs to the site.
- Command Bar and shortcuts (Find): Open with the button, Ctrl+K or /. Press ? for the shortcuts. The index is the sample one the workbench serves.
- Filter Bar (Find): Type state:open and a space, or pick a quick filter. The query is kept in the address.
- Calendar (Dates): List, Months and Runway views of the sample set; change "today" to move the view.
- Timeline (Dates): Every dated entry grouped by month, with past and next marked as of "today".
- Today board (Dates): Each calendar’s entries for one day.
- Issues List (Content): A static list grouped by status; no script. Set strict to false to render data that fails validation.
- Diagram Viewer (Content): Click the diagram or Explore. Zoom, pan, Fit and Reset; Escape closes.
- Circular Sun Dial and moonlight (Proposals): A proposal, not shipped (proposals/sun-dial.md). Turn the dial round and round: midnight runs on into the next day and the moon moves on a day each turn. Moon turns through a lunation instead, new to full and back, and the night page takes the moon’s light. Letting go in Day holds the phase, as the straight dial does. The straight dial is below for comparison.
How it keeps out of the way
Each story runs in a stage frame of its own, so a story's theme, mode or media queries never change the workbench around it. The workbench's own bar has its own theme menu and mode switch, under its own keys, and the stage keeps its choices under others: neither can overwrite the other, or a real site's choices on the same origin. The Phone and Tablet buttons narrow the stage, so each unit's breakpoints and container queries apply as they would on a phone.
The live frames on these pages are the workbench's single-story view: one story with only its theme and mode, and a link back here to edit it. Stoa exports the workbench as static files that run from any folder, and this site publishes that export as it is.
