Projects / techne
Inspect and operate the Techne Harness from a terminal.
Provides the operator command grammar for the Techne Harness: share-safe offline diagnostics, local health checks, explicit authentication, and controller status and bootstrap commands.
Released command-line tool · currently published as v0.2.0 · experimental
The problem
What this is for.
A personal execution harness needs one deliberate operator interface, or its diagnostics and controller operations end up scattered across ad hoc scripts and provider consoles. techne gives those actions a single documented command surface, with authentication and bootstrap kept explicit and interactive rather than implied.
Whose problem
Whether it is yours.
You want this if you operate or evaluate the Techne Harness and need to check your local setup or follow its documented controller workflows. If you are not running the Techne Harness, it has nothing to operate.
Capabilities
What it actually does.
- diag: report tool version, installation mode, platform, runtime and configuration presence offline, in a form safe to share, with a deliberate full mode for local detail.
- doctor: run read-only operator checks and report actionable findings with a healthy or unhealthy verdict.
- auth login: establish an operator session explicitly and interactively.
- controller status and bootstrap: inspect a controller, or prepare one through an explicit interactive step.
- completion: print Bash or Zsh definitions for the current commands and options without touching shell startup files.
State
How finished it is.
Published and labelled experimental — the newest of the five tools. Its command surface and operating guidance are still tentative, so expect them to move between releases.
Using it
How to start.
Install it from the Homebrew tap or the pinned installer below, then run techne diag to check the local setup or techne --help for the full command reference.
Prefer Homebrew.
The Knowledge Islands tap packages techne, so Homebrew owns upgrades and removal. Naming the tap in the argument taps it implicitly.
brew install knowledgeislands/tap/techne
Or use the stable installer endpoint.
The URL below is this site's stable machine route. It redirects to the installer published at v0.2.0 in the source repository, which owns the installer's behaviour and any signature or checksum verification it performs.
curl -fsSL https://knowledgeislands.info/install/techne | sh
Boundaries
What it deliberately does not do.
The Techne Harness owns the controller and fabric applications, infrastructure, runtime payloads and provider adapters; techne owns only the command surface over them. Remote-environment management remains on hold pending the principal's authorisation and a remote-delivery policy.
Authority
What this repository owns.
Owns the public techne command grammar, diagnostics, installation and release artefacts. The Techne Harness owns everything it operates.
That boundary is deliberate. The ecosystem separates philosophy, engineering discipline, capability semantics, portable standards, and executable behaviour so that none of them can quietly absorb another. The full directory shows where this project sits relative to the rest.
